Officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement
Agency (NDLEA) have arrested a 44-year-old woman, Abdulrasaq Modinat
Alake, at Lagos International Airport.
Reports made it known that the woman, who is a trader, was caught
with 4.450 kilogramme of cocaine at the Murtala Mohammed International
Airport in Lagos. When the Kwara state indegene was quizzed by the
officials, she gave her ill-health as an excuse. She said she became
involved in drug trafficking after she suffered an ailment that took
away all her resources. She said: “I was married but later separated. I am the only person taking care of myself.”

She was arrested alongside another woman who said her husband’s lack of support pushed her into the illegal drug business.
However, NDLEA in a statement yesterday, October 2, said the two suspected female drug traffickers are currently assisting narcotic investigators with relevant facts relating to the exportation of 4.450kg of cocaine to India and 7kg of cannabis to China.
Earlier this year, four Nigerians who were part of an international drug syndicate were arrested in New Zealand. They were jailed for terms between 15 and 18 years after being found guilty of importing and possessing methamphetamine for supply.
In May 2015, the Malaysian High Court sentenced to death a Nigerian female student who was found guilty of trafficking 765.9 g of methamphetamine at the KL International Airport.
